The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) is looking for a Web Content Manager to join their Communications & Marketing Division.

Role Overview: The Web Content Manager will oversee the development, maintenance, and administration of VMFA’s website. The goal is to inform, engage, and attract visitors to the museum while ensuring a positive user experience. This role involves working collaboratively with colleagues across the organization, serving as a project manager for web content, and enforcing intelligent content design and best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Content Management:

  • Serve as a project manager for content development, creating and tracking schedules for website updates.
  • Publish, maintain, and update content.
  • Establish and support a network of content contributors across the organization.
  • Conduct content audits to identify gaps and redundancies.
  • Enforce intelligent content design and digital information design best practices.
  • Review and edit content for accuracy and consistency.
  • Train staff on CMS usage and web content development.
  • Make continual UX and performance enhancements.
  • Develop and update process documents and policies related to web content.

Web Administration:

  • Supervise website upkeep and technological development, working with developers and internal IT.
  • Manage the museum’s CMS.
  • Manage or advise consultants contributing to digital engagement strategies.
  • Articulate technical specifications for project deliverables.
  • Advise and assist with institutional database integration.

Analytics & Reporting:

  • Assess web performance and report web analytics and insights.
  • Track progress against goals regularly.
  • Conduct competitor and peer research to stay updated on digital efforts in the museum field.
  • Act as a thought leader on digital marketing.

Special Projects:

  • Play a key role in redesigning the current website, translating organization-wide brand and content strategy into an effective online presence.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with Content Management Systems.
  • Knowledge of web content strategy and user experience design.
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.
  • Expertise in information architecture, web analysis, and SEO best practices.
  • Knowledge of Google Analytics.
  • Experience in creating, writing, and editing web content.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience managing internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask efficiently.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Progressive web management and digital strategy experience.
  • Experience in designing websites to meet institutional requirements and accessibility standards.
  • Data analysis skills, including user testing and interpreting results.
  • Experience in managing or contributing to website redesigns or content migrations.
  • Familiarity with project management tools.
