The Senior Director of Content Strategy, reporting directly to the Vice President of Marketing and Communications, is responsible for developing a comprehensive communications strategy targeting diverse audiences, including prospective students, alumni, faculty, staff, donors, and more.

This role involves serving as the Managing Editor for The College Today and College of Charleston Magazine, supervising editorial teams, and collaborating across campus to create original content that supports recruitment, retention, alumni engagement, and the College’s mission and core values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a quarterly content plan for web and social media engagement.
  • Create content about BOWA projects, processes, differentiators, industry trends, and more.
  • Customize and optimize content for different channels, with a focus on social media and SEO best practices.
  • Maintain BOWA’s social media presence and assist team members in their social media/content plans.
  • Plan and execute marketing programs and mailings for project timelines.
  • Coordinate with various teams to secure project visuals and details for content creation.
  • Administer programs such as promotional items, headshots, business cards, etc.
  • Assist in managing SEO, PPC, and other digital marketing initiatives.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, marketing, communications, or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in print and/or digital media, with expertise in content marketing and digital content management.
  • Experience in team leadership and management of creative professionals.
  • Proficiency in a variety of writing styles, including content marketing, magazine features, web copy, and press releases.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects, and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, digital publishing platforms (e.g., WordPress), email marketing platforms (e.g., MailChimp), and Adobe programs (e.g., Photoshop, InDesign).
  • Preferred: Experience with SEO, HTML, Google Analytics, and prior work in higher education.
